Europe has a handle on feminist porn, from Sweden’s Mia Engberg (Dirty Diaries) to Spain-based director and author Erika Lust (Lust Cinema), and German-based queer filmmaker Marit Östberg (Disorder Desire Productions). France holds lesbian filmmaker Emilie Jouvet, UK is home to Petra Joy, and this year Canada’s Feminist Porn Awards presented “Movie of the Year” to Amsterdam-based Jennifer Lyon-Bell (Blue Artichoke Productions). Now, it’s time for Italy to set put its name on the map as 11 Italian women take the director’s chair.

Le Ragazze Del Porno is a collective of journalists, filmmakers, writers, and actresses who aspire to produce a series of erotic short films that will focus on female sexual pleasure.

According to a recent article about the collective on West: “It will be a long time before the government starts to fund feminist porn in Italy, where the Lars Von Trier film Nymphomaniac was recently censored in cinemas. Back in 1997, the Danish director had already launched his own line of female porn, called Puzzy power, with his own production company, Zentropa.”

Though Le Ragazze del Porno recognizes that they may not have support from the Italian government — including the possibility that they may have to film their productions out of the country — they are optimistic and have created a fundraiser on IndieGoGo to reach their financial goals. It may be a global effort. “Crowdfunding as a mechanism of collective financing for cultural projects is still relatively unknown in Italy,” says Slavina. Perhaps feminist porn fans will lend world-wide support.
