A Ghost of a Chance

BIJOU Gay Classics

105 min. Directed by Gorton Hall
Description:

A gay porn adaptation of the Noël Coward play Blithe Spirit, this Gorton Hall-directed comedy from early L.A.-based studio Jaguar Films tells the supernatural tale of Jerry (Glenn Brock) being haunted by the pesky ghost of his former lover, Cass (cute, charming Roy Clark), who meddles with his current relationship.

Jerry and his beau, Ted (hunky Jimmy Hughes), are trying to make their new relationship work, when Cass begins popping up everywhere in Jerry's life, from voyeuristically spying on the new couple making love to trailing Jerry along on his shopping and bar outings and giving him a incorporeal blowjob (complete with an amusing dick-tied-to-a-string effect). Meanwhile, Cass pays a visit to his and Jerry's college student pal, Billy (Toby Willis), who was secretly in love with Cass, and the two start an affair.

Cass also takes time to get into some '70s gay sexual politics, advocating for sexual openness in the face of Jerry's tendency towards monogamy and describing the open and accepting attitude towards different sexualities in heaven. This entertaining narrative feature sports a cast of shaggy-haired '70s guys, fun special effects and editing flourishes, a strong lead performance from Roy Clark, amusing dialogue, and attractively-photographed and tender sex scenes.
