The music video accompanies Oakland-based band Pillowprince’s second single, “R the Straights OK,” a playful critique of homophobia featuring lyrics drawn from real-life comments the band has received over the years.

Directed by Olivia Lee (Pillowprince’s lead singer) the video offers an unapologetically queer celebration showing some of the beautiful beacons of light in the Bay Area queer and kink community. At a time when these communities are facing escalating attacks and erasure, it’s more important than ever to showcase authentic queer and trans embodiment and joy and to reject sanitized, corporate rainbow washing. The video revels in subversive desire, unapologetic freakery, offering a powerful dissent against the rigid rules of acceptability.

It opens a window into a richly expansive queer universe, showcasing a community thriving on its own terms – and proving that queers have more fun.
