A love story about fetish porn… RAW! UNCUT! VIDEO! chronicles the rise and fall of homegrown gay porn studio Palm Drive Video, and explores how a devoted couple helped battle a devastating health crisis by promoting kinky sex.

Legendary leatherman Jack Fritscher met Mark Hemry in 1979 at Harvey Milk’s birthday party – and the two fell head over heels in love. When the AIDS epidemic swept through San Francisco, the couple left the city to begin a new venture: turning a rural ranch in Sonoma County into a safe-sex porn studio that offered viewers new sexual possibilities in an age of plague. Casting rugged non-professional models to explore their unique erotic fantasies on screen, the studio explored a wild array of queer kinks – and helped champion sex-positivity in the porn industry.

Director Statement

AIDS continues to pose a massive health threat around the globe and understanding the diversity of tactics that communities in the Global North used to battle the epidemic in the 1980s and 1990s remains critical in sustaining efforts to control the disease. Media outlets have reported extensively on the role of governments and activists in promoting safe-sex practices to help combat the transmission of AIDS. But, there has been scant mainstream coverage of efforts to mitigate infection by underground fetish and porn communities through the promotion of sex-positivity and alternative safe-sex practices.

Now, in light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, an exploration of how to safely experiment sexually during a global health crisis is more relevant than ever. We are inspired to create RAW! UNCUT! VIDEO! to examine the historical significance of gay fetish porn during the height of the AIDS crisis in the U.S., to trace the dedicated efforts of two leathermen (Fritscher and Hemry) to produce erotica that allowed queer folks to safely explore their sexual boundaries in an age of plague, and to recognize an assortment of sexual pioneers who demonstrated alternative practices by sharing their own kinks on screen. At the same time, we hope to cast light on the importance of embracing non-normative sexualities and overcoming moralistic frameworks that only accept human relationships in extremely limited terms.

Curator's Note: PinkLabel.TV is curated by its creator Shine Louise Houston based on a set of criteria that aims to expand our notions of adult film. Our collection includes erotic and adult videos that often exist outside of conventional pornography, whether in depictions of bodies and desires that are underrepresented in commercial porn, through titles with historical cultural relevance, or movies with original concepts and cinematic craft. With these factors taken into consideration, we hope you appreciate the film.

Troubleshooting Streaming Video On your Computer:

Try Another Video: Try viewing another episode on the site to see if you encounter the same problem. If only one video on the site is causing an issue, please contact us via the form below (and mention which video is causing trouble).
Refresh Your Browser Window: This will reset the player, in case a temporary error occurred.
Close Other Tabs and Windows: Other open websites can sometimes conflict with video playback or overtax your computer's memory.
Check your Browser version: Our site works optimally on the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer. You can check your browser version and update to the latest at whatbrowser.org.
There is a rare issue with hardware acceleration in Chrome that can interfere with video - if Chrome is updated but video still fails to play, try watching in Firefox or another browser.
Check Your Internet Connection: Measure your current data speed at Speedtest.net and insure your current download speed matches what your ISP promises to provide. If it clocks lower than it should, make sure no one else on your network is downloading large files or streaming video, that you haven't exceeded any data quotas set by your ISP, and that you have a strong connection if on wifi.
If those aren't an issue, try resetting your home network:
  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Unplug your Modem.
  3. Unplug your router if it's a separate device.
  4. Wait for around one minute.
  5. Plug in your modem and wait about a minute until all indicator lights are on. Then do the same for your router if you have one.
  6. Turn on your computer and wait for it to reconnect, then test your connection again.
If your connection speed is still lower than it should be, contact your ISP.

If none of these steps helped, and your internet connection is fine, please contact us via the form below! Give as much detail about the error you see and the steps you've tried as you can, including what browsers and operating system you use.
