The first territory in Australia to decriminalize homosexual sex was the Australian capital territory in 1973 followed by South Australia in 1975, Victoria in 1981, Northern Territory in 1983, New South Wales in 1984, Western Australia and Queensland in 1990. The last state was Tasmania in 1997.
