PinkLabel.TV’s PORN CLUB is like a book club for porn nerds. For each edition, we offer a selection of titles in our new adult film review series in efforts to encourage discussion about porn as an indie film genre, reviewing of classic and contemporary titles available on our streaming network. Topics span technical aspects of how a movie was made, directorial influences, perceived social or historical impact, and other aspects of interest to the reviewer.
We’ve covered Radley Metzger, Wakefield Poole, Fatale Media, and Peter Berlin, and have looked at filming threesomes, touch, ASMR, and Masturbation. This month, PornClub focuses on Director Shine Louise Houston’s latest release, Chemistry Eases the Pain.
Frankie is set on her college path with a supportive Mom and tight-knit circle of queer friends. But the laws of attraction have other plans when she catches feelings for her Chemistry study-partner, Matt. Internalized bi-phobia runs deep, and soon Frankie must confront her ambivalence about her desires and fears of being rejected by her community. Which will she choose: Love or her pride?
“The beauty of the queer experience is that we have an opportunity and space to define ourselves — but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Chemistry is a humorous and heartfelt look at the struggle of change.”
~ Shine Louise Houston
PORN CLUB Reviews
“What makes Chemistry Eases The Pain so great is that the film addresses the negative issues sometimes associated with straight men in queer spaces head on — namely consent and control.”
— R.T. Collins
“I enjoyed watching Frankie take on the role of teacher, laughed at the house full of Chads (pay attention to the end credits), and the coming of age (no pun intended) vibe for the ending.”
— Jet Noir
“Chemistry Eases the Pain takes its time with the explicit sex… a journey that is at times comedic and, at times, touching.”
“The sex scene between Frankie and Matt—she’s his first ‘bagged lesbian’ though he seems to genuinely care for her—and he’s her first boy—is realistic and touching.”
PORN CLUB is an adult film review series presented by PinkLabel.TV. Tune in next month for our next set of reviews, spanning classics to contemporary.
