BIODILDO: An Interview with Christian Slaughter

Christian Slaughter began working as a production assistant in the early 2000s, and later as production manager and producer on several movies for directors including Jürgen Brüning, Bruce LaBruce, Todd Verow, Jörn Hartmann, Maria Beatty, and Cheryl Dunye. He helped organize the very first Porn Film Festival Berlin in 2006 and continues to assist in addition to working as a casting and production manager for the gay porn company WURSTFILM in Berlin, where he made his directorial debut.

Q: Tell us a bit about your film. What’s it about? And what inspired you to create it?

Well, I don’t want to tell too much about it as it contains some unexpected twists – I like to play with clichés and challenge the audience. The inspiration I got in 2009 at the Festival Independiente de Cine para Adultos in Madrid as I heard for the first time on a panel about the expression ‘biodildo’ used by Beatriz Preciado as a synonym for cis-men or men generally.

Q: Seven minutes or less is a pretty tight limit. What are some of the challenges in creating a short erotic film?

Hmm, that’s a good question…

I think it depends on what you would like your movie to achieve. If you want it to arouse the audience it is really a big challenge as everybody has different triggers. So I guess it’s always a good advice to combine sexiness with humor if you only have limited time.

If you want to give your audience just an impulse to think about something any length is fine as the shortest movie can express anything.

Q: What’s your background in film or in making erotic films? How does making an erotic film differ from making a non-erotic one?

Since the early 2000′s I’m working in film business as production assistant/producer for directors such as Bruce LaBruce, Maria Beatty, Todd Verow or Cheryl Dunye just to name some. Also I am working as production and casting manager for the gay porn company Wurstfilm in Germany, so I guess I have some skills in depicting eroticism.

I think the main difference between erotic and non-erotic films is that you can rely completely on the script and your imagination shooting a non-erotic movie. In erotic films you can not push big parts of the action – you just can hope that it happens closely to your imagination.

Q: What do you hope audiences will get from your work?

I hope the audience will have fun, feel a little bit of upcoming heat and get the idea that it’s always a good idea not to judge after a first glance.

Q: Who are your performers, and how did you meet them/invite them to participate?

My performers are well experienced actors in explicit film making and I got them knowing through a previous project. Jiz Lee I met at the set of MOMMY IS COMING as well as KAy Garnellen, they are the stars of my movie. And believe it or not I really wrote a script for this movie and both of them agreed immediately to join the project after reading it.

Q: Were there any funny or unexpected moments while filming?

Yes, of course, and I strongly believe that this is one of the most important ingredients of erotic film making, besides the catering ( though the latter is valid for film making in general – you can ask your cast and crew almost to do everything as long as you feed them well 😉 )! You can not expect really good looking eroticism if your actors don’t have fun with what you ask them to do. So don’t be too serious while directing erotic films and be prepared to accept the unexpected – sometimes these are the strongest moments of an erotic movie.

Q: What projects are you working on now/next, and where can we find you?

I just shot with my stars a sequel, BIODILDO 2.0, with another unexpected twist and I hope the audience will like this one as well. It will be released in early 2014 and of course I hope it will be distributed at PinkLabel.TV as well like BIODILDO is quite successfully.
