On October 28th, 2008, Pink & White director Shine Louise Houston filmed a video urging Californian voters to cast their ballots against Proposition 8. Pink & White Productions donated all sales from sign ups on CrashPadSeries.com for the full day of October 30th.
In todays’ historic ruling, the United States Supreme Court struck down the “Defense of Marriage Act” (DOMA) and denied standing in Hollingsworth v Perry, which challenged the constitutionality of the anti-gay Prop 8, which put a statewide ban on marriage equality. This decision has restored marriage equality in California.
While not all of the Supreme Court’s rulings were favorable, including the removal of the Voting Rights Act which protected the voting rights of vulnerable Americans, including people of color and LGBTQ individuals, we’re relieved to hear the good news in favor of marriage equality, as well as the reproductive rights of those in Texas thanks to the filibuster by Wendy Davis, who stood for 13 hours to protect her state from an anti-abortion bill.
On behalf of everyone at Pink & White Productions, we’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone working towards equal rights, and a celebratory “Fuck Yeah!” with those who will enjoy the benefits of being legally recognized as a married couple, including our own director Shine and binational couples like our co-producer Syd and her girlfriend Yuki will now be able to have a future in the US.
Co-director Alexa was at San Francisco City Hall this morning to celebrate the good news. Here she is with her girlfriend. Look forward to her interview in the New York Times Blog!
Love Wins!
