Shine Louise Houston teaches a special CRASHCOURSE workshop during PornFilmFestival Berlin!
Screenplays & Storyboards: How to Map Your Adult Movie
Directing a film requires clear and effective communication with cast and crew. Award-winning director and writer Shine Louise Houston of Pink & White Productions (The Crash Pad, SNAPSHOT) presents a special “Crash Course” designed especially for adult movie makers, though all are welcome to attend.
Houston walks us through the process of brainstorming, organizing ideas and stringing them all together, providing the tools that allow a director to effectively communicate ideas to cast and crew for a cohesive and compelling story. The course will cover screenplay structure and how it applies to sex scenes, introduce basic storyboard language, learn ways to pitch your idea, and troubleshoot your project. By the end of the two-hour workshop, you’ll have structure for organizing your thoughts and conveying ideas to others. No previous film experience is required. This workshop applies to narrative, experimental, and documentary film genres and is open to filmmakers of all levels. We recommend you bring a script summary or project idea for practical application during the class!
Location: Altes Finanzamt
Maximum number of participants: 50
Workshop fee: 20 € ($23.50)
This workshop takes place in Berlin at Altes Finanzamt (Schönstedtstraße 7, 12043 Berlin, Germany). Directions and more information will be emailed to participants prior to event date.
Workshop will feature presentation of several explicit clips from Houston’s work. There will be no nudity or actual sex involved. All genders, orientations and proclivities are welcome. We strive to create a safe, consensual, and non-judgmental environment. Please let us know if you have any needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
About the instructor:
As a graduate from San Francisco Arts Institute with a Bachelors in Fine Art Film, Shine Louise Houston has always had unique vision. Her signature cinematic style is best known for its honest and charismatic depictions of queer desire. In 2015, she received San Francisco’s Harvey Milk “Sylvester Pride in the Arts” Award for her work’s portrayal of honest and diverse sexuality, and most notably seen in CrashPadSeries.com and its cast of queer and trans performers, people of color, and varying bodies and abilities. For over a decade, her films have screened across the world, spanning Frameline and Outfest to Wonderlust Helsinki (awarded by the Finnish association for Sexology), the British Film Institute, and the Tate Modern London, as well as popular media including HBO, the BBC, and Amazon’s Emmy Award-winning TV series Transparent, and have been presented at academic institutions such as Princeton University and the American Studies Association Conference. Inspired by erotic content creators she met during the Berlin PornFilmFestival, Shine launched PinkLabel.tv with a goal to support emerging and independent filmmakers like herself. Shine considers her best art project to be that of creating Pink & White Productions, a sustainable business that enables the creative vision of many filmmakers to come.
