Who better to talk about online sex work, than online sex workers themselves?
Online sex work has evolved drastically over the past two years, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic which has fundamentally changed the consumption habits of spectators, but also the working methods and tools of the models. Tired of being poorly represented in the classic media, Prune and Carmina have decided to take charge of the creation of a film that will show behind the scenes, unvarnished, without lies, telling the stories directly from the people involved.
Many documentaries have been made about online sex work from those on the outside, but few have centered the voices of the workers themselves, let alone be produced and directed by those who have lived experiences. This detail is crucial, as it dictates a film’s focus and intention. In a time of global health crisis, it is particularly important for sex workers to be able to name the challenges faced within this work, and to bring about awareness that can help to turn the tide on criminalization and injustices that heighten the risks, creating situations ripe for exploitation.
As adult creators themselves, Carmina and Prune intend to produce the first French documentary on remote sex work that focuses on dispelling myths by giving a voice to those directly involved behind the scenes. (Viewers might recognize Carmina as director of the Carre Rose Films studio on PinkLabel.TV, and the driving force behind the porn culture online magazine, Le Tag Parfait!)
Here’s a video about their new project Télétravail du Sexe (Remote Sex Work), currently fundraising to support production.
