The first issue of the Porn Studies Journal was released today. Published by Routledge, the extensive free to read online for a limited time.

It’s the first journal dedicated to the study of pornography, and its first issue covers a wide array of topics including Studying Porn Cultures, Finding Gender through Porn Performance, and one which explores Fair Trade Porn (using Pink & White Productions’ CrashPadSeries.com and PinkLabel.tv as examples).

The journal covers trends in pornographic production and consumption, and looks into the sexual fantasies depicted in explicit media. It is the first “dedicated, international, peer-reviewed journal to critically explore those cultural products and services designated as pornographic.”

The study of pornography is certainly worthy of scholastic attention, and the news alone has been reported in The Atlantic, and Time. Later issues will cover specific focus; submissions for Racial Pornographies is due in April, while Music and Porn call for papers has a June deadline.
