Canadian actor, writer, photographer, and underground adult filmmaker Bruce LaBruce has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for his new film The Misandrists, starring Susanne Sachße, Viva Ruiz, Caprice Crawford, Kita Updyke, and Kembra Pfahler, who many will recognize from her work in NYC’s performance art scene during the 80’s and 90’s.

The Misandrists, a prequel and companion piece to Bruce LaBruce’s 2005 film The Raspberry Reich, tells the story of a secret cell of feminist terrorists planning to liberate women, overthrow the patriarchy, and usher in a new female world order. The group which is led by Big Mother operates a school for wayward girls in the countryside as a front for a radical terroristic cell.

When a young man, a radical leftist, who is running from the police, happens upon this remote female stronghold, one of the girls takes pity on him and hides him in the basement. His presence eventually disrupts the household and reveals a number of unexpected secrets, as the film moves towards its climax: the revelation of a new style of lesbian porn that is to be used as both propaganda tool and calling card for their new brand of female revolution.

Produced by Jürgen Brüning and Amarda Bird Films, this is the first time LaBruce has used crowdfunding to support the production of his films, joining queer filmmakers who have also harnessed the power of crowd-funded production models, such as Shine Louise Houston (who raised $23,000 on IndieGoGo for SNAPSHOT), Tobi Hill-Meyer (who raised over $15,000 for Doing It Again: The Trans Women Porn Project) and Vex Ashley of FourChambers (who uses Patreon to raise over $10,000 per each film project). Crowdfunding has proven effective in securing the financial backing necessary to create new works and if LaBruce’s campaign is successful, his will be among the largest adult-oriented films to be crowdfunded to date. Donors have until May 27th to obtain the film’s goal of €23,000 Euros (or $25,929 USD).

Perks include credits in the film, LaBruce’s past films, props and posters from the set, and entry to the film’s party at the Berlin PornFilmFestival this October.
