The Elusive Cervix

Insatiable Pictures

18 min. Directed by Torri Lisek
Description:

Emily Adaire has to deal with the German medical bureaucracy and she is sent for some additional tests. At the doctor's practice, she is informed that she'll need a cervix examination, which is a problem because she doesn't have one. To satisfy the paperwork, the doctor informs her that she'll have to do the exam anyway...

Director's Note: This film happened after we'd planned another shoot but one person got a positive COVID test and had to drop out. We worked it all out around a day before and the dialogue is all improvised. Ann managed to capture the dry, unfriendly professionalism that many German doctors have and Emily looks suitably bewildered. The situation is sort of real because Emily would in theory be able to get money from the Krankenkasse if she had a cervix examination but nobody knows what actually happens if you don't have one and she was never quite curious enough to find out. The film is our imagining of how that situation might unfold and a shot at the often Kafkaesque nature of trans healthcare.
